SportPesa Champions Women’s Football in South Africa

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has been crowned the 2026 Varsity Football Women’s champion after a commanding 5-0 victory over UP-Tuks.

SportPesa’s partnership with Varsity Football continues to provide a vital national platform for talented university athletes from across the country to showcase their skills and highlight the growing strength of women’s football in South Africa.

The final, held at UJ Soweto Stadium on 19 August, brought a thrilling conclusion to an exciting season of university football that commenced with the opening weekend on 1 August.

This year marked SportPesa’s second year supporting the women’s competition, highlighting a partnership that provides a vital national platform for talented university athletes to showcase their skills and demonstrate the growing strength of women’s football in South Africa.

Throughout the season, SportPesa actively worked to connect players and fans through matchday activations and interactive engagement, bringing supporters closer to the action. The sponsorship also celebrated individual achievements, such as UJ’s Mho Dlaimini, who received the prestigious Goal Rush Award after an outstanding tournament, notably scoring UJ’s crucial first goal in the final.
