SportPesa Injects Ksh 20 million into DP World Tour’s 2026 Magical Kenya Open

In a significant move to diversify its sports portfolio, SportPesa invested Ksh 20 million (€122,000) into the 2026 Magical Kenya Open (MKO), serving as the tournament’s exclusive betting partner.

The 57th edition of the Magical Kenya Open, held from February 19-22, 2026, exemplified a sponsorship initiative aimed at elevating the overall quality and delivery of the event beyond mere branding. Significant funds were allocated to infrastructure, logistics, media coverage, and supporting the capacity of the Karen Country Club to host 144 elite golfers from over 25 countries. A notable portion of the sponsorship was dedicated to prize money, totaling Ksh 348.3 million, attracting top international players such as 2026 winner Casey Jarvis, who secured victory with a final-round score of 62, and defending champion Jacques Kruyswijk. Additional investments in hospitality ensured high-quality coverage and excellent player care, helping to maintain the tournament’s reputation as a world-class event.

This investment marks SportPesa’s inaugural involvement in professional golf, aligning with its mission to elevate Kenya’s reputation in international sports. The partnership aims to position Kenya as a global sports hub by supporting the 57th Magical Kenya Open, a key event on the DP World Tour, and integrating Kenya into the continent’s elite sporting calendar alongside competitions like the South African Open. SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri described this initiative as a “grand entry” designed to showcase Kenya as a home of sports.

He said, “This is our grand entry into golf, and we are going to keep doing this for years to come. As SportPesa, we are very proud to partner with this event and it helps us position the country globally as the home of sports. By supporting the Magical Kenya Open, we are investing in a platform that attracts world-class talent and enhances Kenya’s international reputation as a competitive host for premier sporting events. We are hoping more Kenyan golfers can participate and we can have a Kenyan winner in the Kenya Open this year.”

SportPesa and Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) shared a vision of empowering Kenyan professional and amateur golfers, evident in the 2026 tournament which featured at least 10 Kenyan golfers, including Njoroge Kibugu, Justus Madoya, and Dismas Indiza, providing them with a valuable platform to compete against the world’s best on home soil. The partnership also included a strong corporate responsibility component, focusing on the future of the sport through initiatives such as youth golf clinics to foster passion and skill development among Kenyan youth, as well as community outreach programs that utilized the tournament as a catalyst for educational workshops and greater local engagement.

Ronald Meru, the Commercial Director of the Magical Kenya Open 2026, welcomed SportPesa as the event’s principal betting sponsor, underscoring the valuable support they provide as key partners.

SportPesa is synonymous with creating winners, and we are delighted to have them on board as the official betting partner of the Magical Kenya Open. Their backing is more than just a logo placement. It strengthens our capacity to deliver a truly world-class tournament. Sponsorship of this magnitude allows us to channel resources where they matter most, in quality, innovation, and the overall experience,” Meru said.
