The High Court of Enugu State has ruled to shut down Bet9ja operations in the state

The Enugu State Government has shut down Bet9ja operations in Enugu State, Nigeria, following a court order obtained by the Enugu State Gaming and Lotto Commission from the High Court of Enugu State, due to alleged breaches of the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Law by the operator.
Prince Arinze Arum, Executive Secretary, Enugu State Gaming and Lotto Commission, explained that KC Gaming Networks, the parent company of the Bet9ja brand, had been issued multiple warnings regarding their infractions and regulatory breaches. Despite these warnings, administrative notices, and pleas from the commission, particularly concerning license revalidation, outstanding fees, and other statutory obligations, the company continued to ignore the directives, leading to the shutdown.
“We are here to enforce compliance with the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Law. We have had several communications with KC Gaming concerning their infractions and regulatory breaches, including financial responsibilities to the state, but they neglected every communication and entreaty we made,” said Arinze.

The Enugu High Court ruling, as presided over by Justice H.O. Eya and in Suit No. 6/54/2025 between the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Commission and KC Gaming Networks, granted an ex-parte order authorizing the commission to seal, distrain upon, lock up, and restrict access to Bet9ja’s gaming premises throughout Enugu State. Following this court order, enforcement teams have begun sealing and restricting access to the operator’s facilities.
Prince Arinze highlighted the commission’s role, stating that, the state government was committed to ensuring strict and unwavering compliance with the law, regardless of the size or prominence of any operator within the state.
““Whether an operator is big or small, any violation of the law or regulations will attract consequences and penalties. We insist on total compliance,” Arum said, adding that compliant operators would continue to enjoy the support and collaboration of the state government,” Arinze continued.
