NLRC Calls for Collaboration Among State Lottery Regulators to Enhance Nigeria’s Lottery Integrity

The National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) has urged state lottery regulatory agencies to unite efforts aimed at sanitizing the Nigerian lottery ecosystem, ensuring more seamless and transparent operations.

This appeal comes after a recent enforcement operation conducted by the NLRC in Lagos and Ibadan, which faced various challenges, including the harassment of NLRC staff. Director-General Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila expressed concerns about these incidents while calling for support from state regulators in the fight against illegal activities within the lottery industry.

“Despite the harassment of our staff, we are calling on all state lottery boards to collaborate with the NLRC in eradicating unlicensed and illegal operations from the industry,” Gbajabiamila stated. He emphasized that the lottery sector has expanded beyond the control of state authorities, asserting that only the federal government possesses the necessary resources to tackle international infiltration and uphold the industry’s integrity. He further encouraged, “We urge all state agencies and operators within the gaming industry to ensure full cooperation with the NLRC’s regulatory framework. Securing the necessary licenses and operating within the law is not just a requirement—it is a collective responsibility to protect consumers and maintain the integrity of Nigeria’s gaming sector. Together, we can build a transparent and lawful gaming industry that benefits all.”
