NGB and Free State Premier’s Office Promote Responsible Gambling Across QwaQwa
The National Gambling Board (NGB) of South Africa, in partnership with the Office of the Premier of the Free State, is carrying out community activations across the QwaQwa region as part of the “EXCO Meets the People” programme.
Under the motto “Play Responsibly for a Safer Tomorrow,” this joint initiative brings leaders and regulators directly into local venues to foster open dialogue, raise awareness, and help residents make informed, financially sound decisions.
While an initial campaign schedule was set out to outline key locations across QwaQwa, the overarching goal remains bringing regulators into direct contact with citizens across various community hubs.
Outreach venues highlighted across the regional rollout include Makoane Village at Lusaka Community Hall, Bolata at the Tribal Council, and Makeneng at Thabang Community Hall. The planned itinerary also encompasses high-level engagements, including a presidential visit to Riverside alongside an outreach session at the Monontsha Tribal Council.

Beyond standard community hall gatherings, the NGB has broadened its local impact through targeted joint operations. During an activation in Tsheseng, where it teamed up with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), their informational booth was visited by Mr. Moses Ketso Makume, the Free State MEC for Finance, Economic Development, and Tourism.
Additionally, outreach extends beyond the Free State border as the NGB joins the in Mahikeng today for the 2026 Responsible Gambling Soccer Tournament Showdown. Bringing together learners and educators from local schools, this athletic gathering uses sports and education to address underage betting under the theme “Don’t Gamble Your Future Away!”.
Across all community engagements, the NGB continuously reinforces core responsible gambling habits, urging citizens to know their personal limits, gamble strictly within their financial means, and maintain betting as a form of entertainment rather than a source of income. Through these collaborative direct activations, gambling authorities and regional leaders aim to build informed, accountable communities and safeguard household stability.
