MEC Matibe, Limpopo, Invites Media to Witness the Destruction Of Illegal Gambling Machines

Mr. Tshitereke Matibe, MEC for economic development, environment and tourism Limpopo South Africa, wrote to invite the media to witness as 200 illegal gambling machines get destroyed.

Limpopo Gaming Board (LGB) partnered with South African Police Services (SAPS) to conduct raids, confiscate and are now burning the illegal machines acquired. The joint goal of the partnership is to ensure gambling is controlled and underage participation is totally curbed.

The machines were confiscated between July 2025 and June 2026 across all five Limpopo districts. The destruction of these machines sends a clear signal to the public, operators and gamblers that LGB is ready to and is fighting illegal gambling. It also cements the Limpopo gambling act 2013 act 3.

The operation is one of the many ways the government and regulation boards are working to stop illegal gambling. This illegal playing is exposing underage gamblers leading to high levels of poverty and addictions in Limpopo.
