North West Province Swears in Board Members of the North West Liquor Authority and the North West Gambling Board

The North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) today hosted the official swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed board members of the North West Liquor Authority and the North West Gambling Board.

The event took place at Sun City resort and was presided over by MEC Keobiditse Evelyn Lenkopane. The ceremony underscored the provincial government’s commitment to its current strategic theme: “Building a North West Province That Works for All.”

The appointment of these board members was a milestone for the province, signifying a renewed dedication to oversight, accountability, and excellence in regulating the liquor and gambling sectors. These boards play a crucial role in ensuring industries operate within the legal framework while contributing to the province’s economic stability.

The board members were sworn in accordance with Section 5 of the Northwest Gambling Board Act, Act 2 of 2001, with Professor George Nzimeni Malebe appointed as chairperson of the Gambling Board alongside other newly appointed board members. DEDECT oversees several key entities, including the North West Development Corporation and the North West Parks & Tourism Board, reflecting its broad mandate to manage the province’s economic and natural resources. Strengthening the leadership of the Liquor Authority and Gambling Board aims to foster a transparent, well-regulated environment for businesses and consumers alike.

The proceedings, which began at 09h00, were part of a broader effort by South Africa to ensure provincial regulatory bodies are equipped with the leadership needed to drive development and uphold high standards of public service.
