EIH Calls on Ethiopian Lottery to Accelerate Digital Transformation and Strengthen Operations

Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) has urged the Ethiopian Lottery Service (ELS) to accelerate its digital transformation and strengthen its core lottery operations to capture the full potential of the country’s rapidly evolving gaming market.

The directive was issued during EIH’s Annual Performance Dialogue. EIH emphasized that while these provisional financial results show remarkable momentum, the service’s current sales volumes and digital capabilities still lag behind Ethiopia’s broader market potential.

To bridge this gap, EIH has instructed ELS to invest heavily in its internal digital capabilities and establish robust market monitoring systems. This push for modernization builds on the recent launch of Ethiopia’s first-ever digital lottery platform, developed in collaboration with TAMCON Software Solutions and integrated with local payment gateway SantimPay, which aimed to capture a wider, mobile-first demographic.

However, EIH stressed that this digital expansion must be closely coupled with the creation of a transparent, responsible, and sustainable gaming ecosystem. This emphasis on integrity follows a sweeping regulatory decision in December 2025, where the Ethiopian government revoked the operating licenses of all sports betting organizations following investigations into illegal financial transactions and licensing violations.

By modernizing its platforms and enforcing rigorous market oversight, ELS is tasked with aligning its operations with global gaming trends, ultimately securing long-term financial sustainability and maximizing its socio-economic contributions to the nation.
