ALGA Appoints John Mutua to Its Board of Directors

The African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA) has officially announced the appointment of Mr. John Mutua to its Board of Directors.
As the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Gaming Operators Kenya (AGOK), Mr. Mutua is a highly respected industry leader, regulatory expert, and award-winning executive.
With 20 years of experience building a “map” of the African gambling sector, Mr. Mutua has established himself as a dominant voice in the industry. Before taking the helm at AGOK, he spent 16 years in operations, including running betting at Ngong Racecourse and consulting for the Moja Group across East Africa, DRC, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana.
His leadership was recently celebrated at the inaugural iGaming AFRIKA Summit Awards 2026, where he was named Male Person of the Year. Additionally, under his leadership, AGOK was named Safer Gambling Champion at Gamble Alert’s Responsible Gaming Awards 2026 in Nigeria.

One of Mr. Mutua’s most significant contributions to the field is his ability to foster constructive engagement between regulators, operators, and policymakers. His extensive background covers both operational and regulatory aspects of the sector, offering him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities within Africa’s rapidly changing gaming landscape. He is a recognized advocate for regulatory excellence and continues to influence discussions regarding policy harmonization and the future of gaming governance on the continent.
