Betika Responds to customer Who Was to sue the Company over ‘Unpaid Winnings’

Betika, a popular sports betting company in Kenya, has issued a response to the allegation made by their registered customer Mr Nelson Kipkogei Melly that he won Sh 477,590 but the company failed to compensate him. Court

Betika confirmed in their reply to Mr. Melly’s lawyers that he had legitimately won Sh 477,590 by placing virtual bets on October 16, 2023. Furthermore, his winnings were duly credited to his Betika wallet

The betting company reported that Mr. Melly opted for the auto-play option and placed a stake of Sh 20,000 per round on Aviator for 20 rounds, resulting in a total stake of Sh 400,000. Betika Response Customer Court

As per the company’s statement, the auto-play feature can solely be initiated by a patron who opts for it, designates the quantity of rounds they desire to participate in, and indicates their desired wager amount.

Furthermore, a stop loss feature is also available for promoting responsible gambling, which empowers players to establish loss limits.

At 9:01am, at the end of the autoplay round, your client withdrew Sh 70,000 and at 9:03, he withdrew an additional Sh 7,500 from his Betika wallet to his Mpesa account. According to Betika, Mr. Melly had used up all his winnings of Sh 477,500 as per the aforementioned records and had no outstanding winnings. This stance was conveyed to Mr. Melly via a customer care phone call on October 16, 2023. However, Mr. Melly disputed this position.

The company reserves its legal rights in this matter and any suit shall be strongly defended at your client’s risk of costs and other incidentals arising therefrom.

Betika has been involved in multiple legal battles concerning disputed bet winnings. In August of 2023, Betika lost a lawsuit filed by Mr. David Juma, who was awarded his Sh 500,000 jackpot prize. According to previous reports by Nation.Africa, Betika argued that Mr. Juma correctly predicted only seven out of eight matches, and therefore, was not entitled to the winnings.

Nevertheless, Mr. Juma managed to demonstrate that he had accurately predicted eight matches in February 2023. Additionally, Betika was instructed to cover the expenses of the litigation, as well as any applicable interests dating from the scheduled jackpot payout.
