Betika Unveils Sh5 Million Sponsorship for Africa Golf Tournament in Kenya

Betika has confirmed a Sh5 million sponsorship for the Sunshine Development Tour’s East Africa Swing, which will feature a doubleheader event in November.

The two events dubbed Betika Masters are set for Vetlab Sports Club from November 2–4, 2025, and Limuru Country Club from November 9–11, 2025. Each leg is expected to attract over 100 golfers from across East Africa and beyond, competing in a 54-hole format with a cut after the second round for the top 30 players and ties. Competitors will vie for a Sh2 million prize purse per event and earn valuable global ranking points on the Sunshine Development Tour — a stepping stone to elite international tournaments.

During the sponsorship launch in Nairobi, Betika’s Head of Brand, Eric Mwiti, said the company was proud to back the Sunshine Development Tour, reaffirming its dedication to advancing inclusive sports development in Kenya. The company has previously sponsored individual golfers, including John Lejirma and Michael Karanga.

“The partnership is specifically important because it helps us take a step towards achieving one of our strategic objectives of supporting sports talent. It is something that is big for us as Betika and our community. We have sponsored many sports disciplines and golf is just one of them. I mean, we’ve been supporting talent like Karanga Michael, John Legerma and this just goes into just furthering our commitment to supporting sports in Kenya,” Mwiti said.

The Sunshine Development Tour serves as a structured platform for professional and elite amateur golfers to earn Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, alongside Sunshine Development Tour Order of Merit points. Success on this circuit can lead to qualification for higher-tier tours such as the Sunshine Tour and Big Easy Tour in South Africa.

IMG Kenya CEO Peter Gacheru praised Betika’s involvement, noting the far-reaching benefits for local golfers. “We’re happy to receive Betika into our partnership with the Sunshine Development Tour. This is a tour that is set up to really demystify the game of golf and bring it and bridge the gap between our amateurs and pros, creating a platform for our amateurs to better their game and create opportunities for them not just to earn from the game of golf, but to also start growing,” Gacheru said.
