Calls for Betting Firms to Increase CSR Activities in Tanzania
Gerson Msigwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Sports, has urged sports betting companies to increase CSR activities, the amount of money they contribute in order to support the growth of sports in Tanzania.
Msigwa made his remarks recently at the Gambling Board of Tanzania’s (GBT) 20th anniversary celebration bonanza, which took place at Dar es Salaam’s Oysterbay Green Sports Park.
Since many young people are focused on participating in sports, Msigwa revealed that it will also improve the work environment for youth in addition to promoting sports growth in the nation as a whole.
Sponsorship for other sports apart from soccer by Sports betting firms will increase the enthusiasm for the participation of young people in various sports which will improve the sports fraternity as well as job opportunities creation in the country.

Msigwa continued on to say that sports betting games are enjoyable, particularly if the betting companies register and go by the rules established by GBT, which will enable the companies to considerably boost the nation’s economy by collecting revenues.

Sports Betting firms in the country which are sponsoring various sports including soccer have greatly helped in creating a better employment environment for youths, I congratulate GBT for marking 20 years since its establishment, so I urge them to continue with their good work and see how this betting firms can be accountable for Corporate Social Responsibility to the local communities.

Msigwa was given the assurance by GBT Director General James Mbalwe that GBT will make sure sports betting firms keep supporting the nation’s sports sector.
In the financial year 2022/2023, for instance, the games contributed 174.4 billion/-to the national income through a variety of ways, including license fees. Betting CSR Activities Tanzania
He stated that the GBT is fully implementing its strategies to ensure that the betting games contribute to the national income.
Currently there are many Sports Betting firms, even our collections are increasing, unlike in 2006/2007 when there were few firms resulting in the collection of 2 billion shillings only, but in recent years the collections are our contribution will be more.
