Celebrating 2024’s Top 50 Most Influential Women in Gaming, Africa: Linet Mafukidze
Linet Mafukidze has an extensive background in law and regulatory compliance, characterized by 17 years of post-qualification legal and executive experience.
She holds a Master of Law (LLM) in Advanced Legal Studies from the University of London and has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Botswana. Additionally, she has completed several management, leadership, and corporate governance courses, including the Management Development Programme (Africa) at the University of Stellenbosch and the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Leadership and Management Program. Linet has also received specialized training in Legislative Drafting and Regulatory Compliance.
In her career, Linet began as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers in 2005, eventually advancing to the position of Principal Legislative Drafter before transitioning to private practice. She reportedly amassed over seven years of experience with the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) as a Manager of Legislation and Compliance, as well as serving in roles such as Acting Director of Legal Services and Board Secretary.

Linet’s exposure to laws and policies governing customs, trade, and taxation has equipped her with the skills to translate policy into legislation that incorporates corporate governance and risk management on both national and regional levels. She specializes in the drafting of tax and customs laws and has served as an Employer Trustee and AML/CFT Compliance officer for the BURS Employee’s Pension Fund, in addition to being an Independent Trustee for True Bread Centre, a Christian-based non-profit organization.
Currently, she serves as the Board Secretary and Regulatory Enforcement Officer of the Gambling Authority in Botswana, where she plays a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the board’s strategic initiatives. Linet’s comprehensive portfolio encompasses corporate governance and governance compliance, both statutory and voluntary, which she integrates into the regulatory framework of Botswana’s gaming industry.
