North West Gambling Board (NWGB) Joins DEDECT for 2026 Mandela Day Outreach Programme
The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) recently joined the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) for the 2026 Mandela Day Outreach Programme.
Held at the Tlhoka Pelaelo Old Age Centre in Sekhing Village, Greater Taung Local Municipality, the initiative serves as a powerful example of how stakeholder partnerships can address the needs of vulnerable populations outside of standard operational budgets. The primary objective of the outreach was to honour the legacy of former President Nelson Mandela by making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
To achieve these goals, the programme provided essential support to the Tlhoka Pelaelo and Sedibeng Sa Lerato Old Age Centres. The donations included essential supplies such as groceries and toiletries to ensure the residents’ daily well-being, as well as mobility and comfort items like blankets, walking sticks, and wheelchairs to improve their quality of life.
Additionally, the programme promoted environmental sustainability by distributing 220 trees to local elders and community members, encouraging greening initiatives and fostering long-term environmental health.
By aligning with government-led initiatives, the North West Gambling Board aims to strengthen existing stakeholder partnerships, promote social development across the province, and contribute to the creation of resilient and empowered communities.
This outreach serves as a reminder that, through collective action and a focus on selfless service, organizations can play a pivotal role in strengthening the social fabric of the North West Province.
Ms. Bitsa Lenkopane, MEC for DEDECT, emphasized that true leadership is rooted in selfless service, particularly toward elders, whom she described as the: “Our elders are the custodians of our heritage and the pillars of our communities. Government remains dedicated to supporting vulnerable populations through stakeholder partnerships, whose generous contributions make these special outreach efforts possible, as they fall outside our operational budget.”
