betPawa Ceases Operations in Senegal

pawaTech, the licensor of the betPawa brand across Africa, recently announced that betPawa will discontinue its operations in Senegal effective 22 September 2025.

The decision stems from the prevailing market conditions in Senegal, which have made it increasingly difficult for locally licensed and taxed operators to remain competitive. Excessive taxation, a monopolized payment system, and high regulatory fees have created an uneven playing field, leaving compliant local operators at a disadvantage compared to offshore competitors. As a result, businesses like betPawa are unable to offer the level of products and services that customers expect while remaining fully compliant.

In other African markets where taxation is fair and payment systems are open, locally licensed operators such as betPawa have played a significant role in responsibly growing the industry, boosting government revenues, and creating jobs. In Senegal, however, restrictive policies have instead shifted much of the activity offshore, reducing the positive impact that licensed operators could otherwise deliver to the economy and community.

Despite this closure, pawaTech and its local partners remain committed to responsible, transparent, and sustainable operations across Africa. While current conditions in Senegal prevent continued operation, the company remains hopeful that future improvements will allow for a return and renewed contribution to the local economy.

All Senegalese customers can rest assured that their funds are secure and will be refunded promptly after the closure.
