North West Gambling Board Promotes Responsible Gaming in Matlwang Village

The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) recently participated in Phase 6 of the Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme. Held in Matlwang Village within the JB Marks Local Municipality, the event served as a platform for the Board to engage directly with residents and uphold its role as a “Guardian of the Game”.

A central focus of the NWGB’s involvement was an extensive educational campaign aimed at promoting responsible gambling behaviour. Officials actively engaged with community members to raise awareness about several critical issues, including the inherent dangers of illegal gambling, the importance of preventing underage gambling, and the various regulatory services offered by the Board to protect the public.

By empowering citizens with this information, the NWGB aims to create a more informed public capable of making safe choices regarding gambling activities.

Education was paired with rigorous oversight as the Board’s Law Enforcement Unit conducted compliance inspections across both gambling and general business premises in the area. These inspections are vital for monitoring adherence to gambling legislation and identifying any illegal activities that could threaten the community. Through these actions, the NWGB ensures the industry remains fair, regulated, and transparent.

The NWGB also highlighted the importance of support for those affected by gambling-related challenges. They promoted the free treatment and counselling services provided by the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF). Individuals in need of professional help are encouraged to contact the SARGF at 0800 006 008.

The NWGB aims to ensure that gambling remains a safe and regulated form of entertainment by working together with the community.
