Celebrating 2024’s Top 50 Most Influential Women in Gaming, Africa: Adenike Oyebamiji

Adenike Oyebamiji is a distinguished legal professional specializing in gaming law and compliance within West Africa. With a robust career spanning over several years, she has established a reputation for her hands-on approach and dedication to client service excellence in the gaming industry.

She was the Project Coordinator of the first ever Africa Gaming Expo held in Lagos in March 2024 attracting Africa and international Gaming enthusiasts from over 25 countries.

Currently serving as the Legal Counsel for Velex Advisory, Adenike brings a wealth of experience and insight into the evolving landscape of gaming in Nigeria and across the region.

Adenike commenced her legal career at KO & AAK Law as a Legal Associate, where she honed her skills in civil litigation, legal drafting, and property consulting from January 2017 until May 2018. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for her adeptness in handling complex legal matters.

Prior to that, in November 2015, she served as an NYSC Counsel at the Ministry of Justice in Port Harcourt, where she engaged in legal research, document drafting, and client interactions, which solidified her commitment to public service and legal advocacy.

In June 2018, Adenike transitioned to the Lagos State Lotteries Gaming Authority (LSLGA) as a Legal Officer. In this role, she played a crucial part in regulating gaming activities in Lagos State, focusing on regulatory compliance, legal drafting, and dispute resolution. Her work at LSLGA further sharpened her expertise in casino and lottery regulations specific to the Nigerian market, allowing her to navigate the complexities of the industry effectively.

Adenike joined Velex Advisory in July 2020 as the Legal Counsel for Legal Compliance in West Africa. In this pivotal role, she oversees various key functions, including facilitating company incorporation, trademark registration, and licensing procedures for gaming operations across multiple countries in West Africa. Furthermore, her responsibilities include drafting and reviewing contracts, conducting intensive regional research for feasibility studies, and ensuring compliance with existing laws.

Adenike’s academic background has played a significant role in her professional journey. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Lagos from 2009 to 2014 and furthered her education with a Master of Laws (LLM), completed in 2020.

Known for her versatility, passion, and commitment to delivering tailored legal services, Adenike ensures that her clients receive legal support that meets and exceeds their expectations.

Outside of her professional commitments, Adenike Oyebamiji is active in community service and enjoys mentoring aspiring legal professionals. She shares her knowledge and experiences to inspire the next generation of lawyers.
