Celebrating 2024’s Top 50 Most Influential Women in Gaming, Africa: Borah Omary

Borah Omary is a distinguished marketing and media professional based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, renowned for her expertise in developing marketing strategies and leading media initiatives across East Africa.

With over a decade of experience in the industry, she has significantly contributed to the growth and visibility of various brands within the complex landscape of marketing and media. Her educational background includes an MBA in Marketing from the Open University of Tanzania (2013-2016) and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Institute of Finance Management (2010-2013).

Borah’s career trajectory reflects her commitment to driving effective marketing solutions and her passion for media production. She currently serves as the East Africa Marketing Manager for betPawa, a leading online betting company. In this role since February 2024, she is responsible for orchestrating all local marketing activities, managing a team of coordinators, and overseeing various campaigns, including out-of-home (OOH) advertising and event management.

Her strategic insights into emerging markets and budget management have been key to the successful execution of betPawa’s branding initiatives in the region. Prior to this, she worked as the Country Marketing Manager for betPawa, where she led marketing activities aimed at user growth while ensuring compliance with local advertising regulations.

Before her tenure at betPawa, Borah Omary was the Managing Director at Mainstream Media Limited, a marketing and media agency, from June 2018 to January 2023. Here, she was instrumental in developing client relationships, supervising marketing strategies, and advocating for innovative digital marketing solutions.

Borah’s earlier experience includes significant roles in media production, such as serving as the Production Assistant Manager at VIASAT1 Tanzania LTD (Modern Times Group) from January 2014 to August 2018, where she managed production activities and contributed to content development. Additionally, her consultancy work with XMedia Kenya involved overseeing film and television projects, ensuring compliance with regulations, and managing budgets, which deepened her understanding of the media landscape across the region.

In July 2024, Borah expanded her influence by becoming an Outlying Ambassador for Women in Gaming-Africa, showcasing her dedication to promoting gender diversity in the gaming industry. This prestigious role allows her to advocate for women’s involvement and empowerment within a traditionally male-dominated field, emphasizing the importance of representation in all aspects of gaming. Her contributions not only enhance the companies she represents but also inspire future generations of women seeking to make their mark in marketing, media, and gaming across Africa.
