Celebrating 2024’s Top 50 Most Influential Women in Gaming, Africa: Gifty-Rita Amoah

Gifty-Rita Amoah grew up in Ghana, where she laid the academic foundation for her distinguished career in law and regulatory compliance. She attended the University of Ghana, earning a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from 2006 to 2008.

Her passion for legal studies led her to pursue further education, resulting in a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Political Science from 2000 to 2004, and a Master of Laws (LLM) specialized in Oil and Gas from 2012 to 2014.

Before immersing herself in the gaming industry, Gifty-Rita worked for two years in the oil sector, primarily as a Project Coordinator at Maersk Drilling. In this role, she coordinated crew schedules, managed immigration processes, and ensured legal compliance for onshore operations.

In 2012, Gifty-Rita transitioned to the legal field, honing her expertise over the next several years across various law firms. She served as a Legal Associate at R.O. Solomon Consulting and Gyandoh Asmah & Co., and later as Managing Associate at Law Times Legal Consulting.

Gifty-Rita entered the gaming industry in 2016, dedicating her expertise to ensuring regulatory compliance as the Deputy Director – Legal at the Gaming Commission of Ghana. In this capacity, she has played a pivotal role in guiding licensees through the complexities of the Gaming Act.

She has spearheaded the creation of advertising guidelines and led the rollout of responsible gaming policies, positioning herself as a key figure in Ghana’s regulatory landscape. In September 2023, she was appointed Acting Director of Inspection, Investigations, Compliance, and Enforcement at the Gaming Commission, where she manages regulatory compliance, conducts thorough investigations, and guarantees fair gaming practices across the sector.

Beyond her office work, Gifty-Rita is a passionate advocate for women in the gaming industry. She has been serving as an Ambassador for Women in Gaming, The African Chapter, since July 2024, where she champions the inclusion and empowerment of women in this traditionally male-dominated field.

Gifty-Rita Amoah is actively working to amend the current Gaming Act and develop administrative regulations for the Gaming Commission. Her goal is to enhance the regulatory frameworks that govern the industry, ensuring that it remains transparent, responsible, and fair for all stakeholders.
