African Regulators Convene in London to Advance Collaboration on Gaming Regulation Across Africa

London, United Kingdom | 2 July 2026 – The African iGaming Alliance (AiA) today convened a high-level African Regulators Session in London on the sidelines of iGB L!VE 2026, bringing together Directors General, Chief Executive Officers and senior regulatory leaders from gambling authorities across Africa to discuss the future of gaming regulation on the continent.
The session was attended by senior representatives from Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania and Angola, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation among African regulators and promoting sustainable, responsible and well-regulated gaming markets.

Key Discussions
The regulators exchanged experiences and best practices on several strategic issues affecting regulated gaming markets across Africa, including:
- Sustainable taxation and creating competitive regulated markets.
- Combatting illegal gambling and improving market channelisation.
- Cross-border regulatory cooperation and information sharing.
- Responsible gambling and consumer protection.
- Data-driven regulation and evidence-based policymaking.
- The development of continent-wide responsible gambling initiatives.
The session featured a technical presentation by H2 Gambling Capital on global taxation models, market channelisation and the relationship between tax policy, player protection and sustainable revenue generation. Discussions highlighted the importance of balanced tax frameworks that encourage compliance, protect consumers and support long-term industry growth.
The African iGaming Alliance also presented its proposed Africa Safer Gambling Week, a continent-wide responsible gambling awareness initiative aimed at promoting consistent messaging, education and collaboration between regulators, operators and other stakeholders across participating African jurisdictions.

- Recognition of the importance of evidence-based policymaking supported by reliable market data.

- Broad support for the continued development of the Africa Safer Gambling Week initiative.
