ITHUBA Makes History with R130 Million PowerBall Jackpot

South Africans across the country waited in anticipation yesterday as the PowerBall jackpot worth a guaranteed R130 million, the biggest National Lottery prize of 2025 was drawn. The historic event, organised by ITHUBA, the official operator of the National Lottery, captured national attention as millions of hopeful players dreamed of winning the life-changing prize.

The R130 million PowerBall draw marks a defining moment for ITHUBA, which has consistently delivered some of the country’s most memorable wins since taking over the National Lottery in 2015. Beyond the staggering figure, the jackpot represents a renewed sense of hope for South Africans dreaming of a fresh start, especially amid tough economic times.

In a move that further strengthens its player-first approach, ITHUBA has raised the overall prize payout ratio from 48% to 50%, allowing a larger share of total revenue to flow back to players through winnings across all divisions. This adjustment means that every ticket purchased now holds even greater value.

“At ITHUBA, our objective has always been to deliver jackpots that have the power to change lives forever. This guaranteed R130 Million is a symbol of possibility, hope, and the chance to transform ordinary lives into extraordinary ones. We are equally proud to announce the increase in our prize payout to 50%, ensuring that more of every rand spent goes back to South Africans in the form of winnings,” said Charmaine Mabuza, ITHUBA CEO.

Players were able to buy PowerBall tickets through several options. They could purchase them in-store at licensed National Lottery retailers across the country, online via the official website at www.nationallottery.co.za, or through the National Lottery mobile app on Android and iOS. Tickets were also available through major banking platforms and by dialling *120*7529# and following the on-screen prompts.
