MAGLA Hosts Free Health Screenings in Partnership with Lions Club in Rumphi Boma

The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA), in partnership with the Mzuzu Viphya Lions Club, hosted free eyesight and diabetes screenings for community members at Rumphi Boma.

This initiative aimed to promote early detection and treatment of these health conditions, which often go unnoticed in the community. By bringing these services directly to the Boma, the partnership sought to reduce barriers to preventative care and improve community health and welfare.

In addition to health screenings, the outreach included a charitable donation of assorted items to the St. Magdalena Centre for Children with Disabilities. Richard Luhanga, President of the Lions Club, emphasized that this support is intended to enhance the daily welfare and quality of life for the children at the facility. The donation was warmly received by the center’s leadership, with Sister-in-Charge Clementina Mwale describing it as “timely” and vital for the continued care of their residents.

While the event was a success, officials highlighted the ongoing need for community and corporate support. Sister Mwale appealed for further assistance to help expand the centre’s capacity to serve more children in need.

This collaboration between MAGLA and the Lions Club exemplifies the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing health disparities and supporting vulnerable populations in Malawi’s rural districts.
