NLGRB Engages OMPA to Promote Responsible Gaming Through Digital Campaigns

The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) recently held a strategic meeting with the Online Media Publishers Association (OMPA) to boost responsible gaming awareness through digital outreach and consumer protection.
As the gaming industry in Uganda and across Africa evolves from traditional physical locations to a digital, mobile-first ecosystem, this collaboration marks a significant move toward modernized consumer protection.
The partnership is designed to address the complexities of the digital gaming landscape through three main pillars, public awareness, which focuses on delivering accurate and timely information to communities nationwide, digital outreach, which leverages online platforms to reach diverse audiences quickly and effectively, and consumer protection, aimed at strengthening the public’s understanding of the risks associated with irresponsible gaming.
The NLGRB views this collaboration as a way to evolve alongside industry trends. Adrine Otunga, the Manager Legal at NLGRB, highlighted the long-term goals of the initiative: “We are strengthening our partnership with OMPA to not only drive positive mindset change but also to collaboratively shape and enhance policies that support responsible gaming across all platforms,” she noted.

By engaging with credible digital publishers, the NLGRB aims to counter misinformation and foster a culture of informed decision-making.
As a key stakeholder, OMPA has pledged to use its digital influence to ensure transparency and integrity in how gaming is presented to the public. OMPA President Giles expressed the association’s readiness to take an active role. He said: “We will prepare proposals in line with the Board’s mandate and ensure the public receives accurate and relevant information.”
