ICE Sustainable Gambling Zone donors fund programme to prevent digital dependency in adolescents

The ICE Barcelona ’25 Sustainable Gambling Zone donors comprising Cirsa, Acordjoc, Grupo Orenes, Novomatic Spain, Novomatic Group, Betsson Group and ALEA have supported the launch in Catalonia of an industry-led educational initiative to help prevent behavioural addiction and digital dependency in adolescents

The Proyecto FES which has been developed by the not-for-profit Plataforma del Juego Sostenible, an industry body which aims to drive sustainability, is raising awareness of the risks associated with digital media through the provision of educational materials and tools for use by schools and families alike.

In collaboration with FECACEN – the Catalan Federation of Educational Centers – and following a successful roll-out in other autonomous regions in Spain, Proyecto FES went live in Barcelona on 13 November with the downloadable Catalan translations funded by the donations from the ICE Barcelona 2025 Sustainable Gambling Zone sponsors.

Spanish TV personality Pedro Garcia who is serving as Proyecto FES Ambassador addressed a group of 70 educators, school owners and principals, explaining the approach promoted by the Proyecto FES which aims to engage with young people in order to educate them on the healthy use of the internet and social media.

Drawing on a blend of personal experience and case studies, he referenced the importance of youth engagement and highlighted the need to involve the entire educational community in that process.

The Proyecto FES materials have been developed by a team of psychologists who are specialist in the clinical care of behavioural addictions including the internet and social media.

Ewa Bakun, Clarion Gaming’s Director of Industry Insight and Engagement, who was present at the launch said: “The Proyecto FES is another example of the outstanding work that ICE SGZ supporters are helping to fund. Since 2019 sponsors have raised a total of £325,000 in the process furthering the progressive work of organisations that share the core vision of creating a sustainable industry.

The SGZ at ICE Barcelona ’26 will once again be one of the highest profile features on the show floor and our objective is to continue to promote and through our donation programme help to fund hugely important initiatives such as the Proyecto FES.”

Brands which have committed their support for the 2026 Sustainable Gambling Zone include Orenes, Cirsa, Novomatic and Novomatic Spain, Merkur and Betsson
