Over 50% of African Female Football Fans are Active Gamblers, Survey Says.

Over 50% of female football fans in Kenya and South Africa take part in sports betting. This is according to GeoPoll‘s 2026 Football Survey.
Among female football fans, sports betting participation reached 62 per cent in Kenya and 59 per cent in South Africa, the highest of the markets surveyed. Nigeria recorded 43 per cent, Ghana 39 per cent and Mozambique 27 per cent. The figures reflect betting participation among female respondents within football audiences in the five countries, rather than among the general female population.
These figures are drawn from GeoPoll’s football fan sample covering Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Mozambique. They reflect betting behavior among female respondents within football audiences, according to a survey published in May 2026.
GeoPoll data further indicates that football remains a dominant part of daily entertainment across these markets. Fan followership among all surveyed respondents ranges between 91 per cent and 96 per cent across the five countries, underscoring the sport’s broad appeal and its central role in driving engagement.
