Bayern Munich vs Ajax Tickets See Strong Demand as Cheap Seats Sell Out

Following President William Ruto’s announcement that Raila Odinga International Stadium would officially open on January 5, 2027, tickets for the inaugural match between FC Bayern Munich and AFC Ajax have recorded strong demand. The cheapest categories sold out within hours of online sales opening on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Tickets priced at KSh 2,500, KSh 3,500 and KSh 5,000 were reportedly sold out by about 9 p.m. on Thursday, according to The Star, as supporters rushed to secure seats.
The initial announcement regarding the ticketing timeline and pricing was officially made earlier that day by Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS), Salim Mvurya. Tickets formally went on sale to the public via the online portal starting at 6:00 p.m. EAT on Thursday, November 5, meaning the lowest-priced tiers were completely cleared out in just three hours.
On October 28, 2026, the Kenyan President Ruto announced that the newly constructed stadium would open with a friendly between Bayern Munich of Germany and Ajax of Amsterdam. The clubs have won ten European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles between them, six for Bayern and four for Ajax.
The fixture carries symbolic significance, as Bayern’s participation recalls Raila Odinga’s years as a student in Germany, while Ajax is renowned for its youth academy. The match will bring together the ideas of “talent,” reflected in the stadium’s original name, Talanta, and “the future,” associated with Ajax’s academy philosophy.

Located at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi, the 60,000-seat stadium was developed as Talanta Stadium under the Talanta Sports City project. It was renamed in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, also known as Baba, Awamu, Tinga and Jakom. The stadium pays tribute to his passion for football and marks one year since his passing, around the time of the national Mashujaa Day celebrations. It is Kenya’s first major international stadium project since Kasarani Stadium opened in 1987.
The remaining seating categories were priced at KSh 15,000 and KSh 20,000, with higher-priced VIP and hospitality packages also available. At the time of the reported sell-out, 731 seats remained in the KSh 15,000 category, 1,792 in the KSh 20,000 category and 113 in the VIP section. CAF confirmed the inauguration on October 29, describing the match as a high-profile encounter ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Supporters have been advised to buy tickets only through the official Talanta Sports City website to avoid scams and invalid tickets. The stadium will also serve as a venue as Kenya prepares to co-host AFCON with Tanzania and Uganda.
President Ruto said: “Next year, together with our brothers and sisters in Tanzania and Uganda, we will co-host the Africa Cup of Nations under the banner of PAMOJA. From this stadium, our message to the world is clear. Kenya is ready to welcome the world, and Africa is ready for greatness. So come home to Talanta. Come home to the Raila Odinga International Stadium. Look up at the new sky of Nairobi and see what Kenyans can build when we believe. We’re not just believers; we are doers. Usawa ni Sawa. God bless you. God bless Kenya.”
