Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have initiated a joint bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027. They suggest holding the AFCON 2027 football competition collectively in all three nations, requiring each to provide at least three stadiums that meet CAF standards for hosting such a tournament. Initially, Uganda and Tanzania were to bid together. However, the three football associations from each of the countries agreed to a combined bid after FIFA’s ban on Kenya was revoked.
The bid has been called EAC Pamoja and it is fully supported by their respective governments and football federations.
The president of Kenya, William Ruto, expressed these opinions in regard to the bid after meeting with Nick Mwendwa, the head of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), and Ababu Namwamba, the cabinet secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts.
We have joined our brothers in Uganda and Tanzania in mounting a joint bid to the Confederation of Africa Football CAF for the opportunity to host the 2027 AFCON. None of the countries has had the opportunity to host the prestigious tournament. We recognize that the talent in Kenya’s sporting and creative industry need to be harness. We fully intend to develop sporting and creative economy.

Egypt, Algeria, and Botswana are the other nations that are interested in hosting the tournament. The three countries have already developed infrastructure like stadiums, training fields, and hotels. Therefore, it will be challenging for EAC nations to win the bid against them to host the competition.
The tournament has previously been held in North, South, and West Africa; however, some people would argue that it is ideal currently to hold it in the East Africa region. These nations, especially Kenya, may face a test from this united bid given that 2027 is the year of the Kenya general elections.
Infrastructure is also a problem because Kenya currently lacks a stadium or training facilities that meet CAF requirements. In the event that Kenya does not complete its preparations in time, the other two nations have each proposed their third option stadiums, citing the fact that Kenya has previously won bids to host but failed owing to a lack of preparation.
