Mary Mount Secondary School Triumphs at National MAGLA Quiz Competition

Mary Mount Secondary School was crowned the grand champion of the 2026 MAGLA Quiz Competition National Finals, securing the top prize of K5 million.
The event, held at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre, was sponsored by the Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) in partnership with Mibawa Studios. The competition featured a unique, interactive format. Unlike traditional quizzes, students were required to both formulate and answer questions, a design intended to foster critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork.
The finals brought together four regional champions representing the best from across Mibawa Studios. Following Mary Mount’s victory, Lilongwe Girls Secondary School finished second, earning K3 million, while Blantyre Secondary School took third place with a prize of K2 million. Mangochi Secondary School was the fourth finalist, receiving a K300,000 token of appreciation.
The prize money is intended to benefit the participants directly. For the winning team, each of the six students will receive K250,000, with K100,000 awarded to their patron.
The competition tested learners across five core subjects like English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. Throughout the rounds, Mary Mount demonstrated consistent dominance. At the Junior Certificate (JCE) level, Mary Mount led with 30 points, surpassing Mangochi Secondary, which scored 26. In the MSCE level, the senior category, Mary Mount secured a decisive victory with 56 points compared to Mangochi’s 50.
