President Mahama Appoints Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo as Acting Commissioner for the Gaming Commission of Ghana

Accra, Ghana – President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo as the Acting Commissioner of the Gaming Commission of Ghana.

This announcement, made on January 22, adheres to Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 67 of the Gaming Act, 2006 (Act 721).

Mr. Quainoo’s appointment is pivotal as he will oversee the regulation of casinos, sports betting, and other gaming activities across the nation.

The letter appointing Mr. Quainoo, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, indicates that his role will be temporary until the governing board provides the necessary advice in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

“I write to formally inform you that the President of the Republic… has appointed you as the Acting Commissioner of the Gaming Commission of Ghana, pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing board.”

This interim period allows for a thorough assessment and establishment of the board’s direction.

Effective from January 22, 2025, Mr. Quainoo is required to indicate his acceptance or decline of the appointment within fourteen days of receiving the letter. In his communication, the President extended his best wishes to Mr. Quainoo, congratulating him on this significant role.

The appointment of the Acting Commissioner is a crucial milestone in President Mahama’s efforts to form a functional government. With a commitment to good governance and regulatory oversight, Mr. Quainoo is expected to leverage his expertise and experience to enhance the operations of the Gaming Commission in Ghana.
