South Africa Exploring AI Solutions to Strengthen Online Gambling Safety

In South Africa, Free State operators are tabling the implementation of AI solutions to help better online gambling safety.
Once its actualized these AI systems will monitor for high-risk behaviors, such as excessive wagering and prolonged sessions. This will enable operators to have timely intervention, while reinforcing self-exclusion tools and public awareness initiatives in partnership with stakeholders.
The AI will focus on enhancing identity verification, curbing underage access, and improving compliance. This will reduce instances of underage gambling as well as help curb addictions and reduce instances of misuse of ones funds.
Free State is trying to curb the increasing perception and especially among the youth that gambling can be a source of livelihood.
Acting CEO of the Free State Gambling, Liquor and Tourism Authority (FSGLTA), Obakeng Seseane, noted that the shift will expose more people to gambling related risks, especially vulnerable groups.

The Helping Hand of The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF)
Support mechanisms are also being reinforced through installations run by the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF). These include self-exclusion tools that allow individuals to block access to gambling platforms, as well as counselling services for those experiencing harm.
The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) provides Free and Confidential Treatment and Counselling to those affected by Problem Gambling and their immediate family members. SARGF also educate South Africans about the potential harmful effect of problem gambling and responsible gambling.
As the gaming sector continues to grow, its just a matter of time before the AI world catches up with it. With this in mind the earlier operators and firms actualize the realization of AI the better to ensure player protection as well as community wellfare.
