DCI Launches Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Crime Investigation Training Programme

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has officially introduced a new Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Investigation Training Module, a development aimed at strengthening Kenya’s ability to respond to the growing use of digital technologies in criminal activity.

The programme was unveiled at the DCI headquarters on Monday in Nairobi, during an event officiated by Ms. Rosemary Kuraru, Director of the National Forensic Laboratory. She noted that the Directorate remains committed to countering criminal actors who misuse digital platforms, virtual currencies, and decentralised technologies to engage in money laundering, fraud, terrorism financing, and other cyber-enabled violations.

According to the DCI, criminals are increasingly exploiting digital platforms, virtual currencies, and decentralised technologies for offences such as money laundering, fraud, terrorism financing, and other cyber-enabled crimes. Ms. Kuraru noted that the rapid pace of technological change has introduced new investigative challenges, particularly due to the anonymity and borderless nature of digital transactions.

The newly launched module is fully funded and technically supported by the European Union (EU).
