Liberia National Lottery Authority Orders LIPAY Inc. To Cease Sports Betting Operations.
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Liberia has revoked the sports betting licence of LIPAY Inc. and ordered the operator to cease operations. This was after an administrative hearing found the company in violation of multiple provisions of Gaming Regulation 001.
The decision comes after proceedings before the 6th Judicial Circuit Court, which established that LIPAY breached Sections 6.4, 6.9, 14.1(b) and 14.1(d) of the country’s gaming regulations.
The regulator said the violations included failure to disclose material information, misrepresentation and misuse of its gaming licence. This creating the impression that an unlicensed foreign entity was authorised to operate in Liberia. Going as far as allowing an unlicensed foreign company to conduct activities outside the terms of its licence. These painting a bad picture as well as breaking the countries gaming laws.
The NLA revoked LIPAY’s licence with immediate effect after the proceedings with fines totaling US$10,000, imposed on the operator. The fines made up of four separate fines of US$2,500 for each violation identified during the hearing.
No Licence Application for Two Years!
The regulator also barred LIPAY from applying for or obtaining any gaming licence in Liberia for two years. The company was ordered to cover damages relating to licence fees and operational activities conducted during the period of non-compliance. All the outcomes of the case and the fines as well are to be(MUST) published in a newspaper at the operator’s expense.
“The action reflects our commitment to enforcing gaming regulations and maintaining oversight of the sector,” said Pieter L. Solo, NLA director general.
The regulator warned all licensed operators, as well as those with foreign affiliations, to comply with Liberia’s licensing requirements and regulatory framework. NLA remains strict on enforcing compliance measures aimed at protecting consumers and maintaining standards within the country’s gaming industry.
