ARGN Welcomes Portia Gaone Diteko of Botswana Gambling Authority to Its Advisory Board

The African Responsible Gaming Network (ARGN) is pleased to recognise Portia Gaone Diteko, Responsible Gambling Programme Manager at the Botswana Gambling Authority, for her expertise and contribution to responsible gambling, addiction prevention, and player protection.

“One of our strengths in Botswana is that we don’t view gambling in isolation.”

This perspective reflects the importance of addressing gambling-related harm through a broader understanding of addiction, public health, prevention, treatment, and social wellbeing.

Portia is an award-winning speaker and addiction professional with postgraduate studies in Psychology and Addiction Science. She has also completed training in the Universal Prevention Curriculum, Universal Treatment Curriculum, and Recovery Coaching through the International Centre for Credentialing and Certification of Addiction Professionals (ICCE).

With 15 years of professional experience, Portia currently leads responsible gambling programmes at Botswana’s national gambling regulatory authority. Her responsibilities include research, prevention and rehabilitation programmes, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and the supervision of counsellors and public educators.

Before joining the Botswana Gambling Authority, she worked as a substance abuse counsellor in national and international inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centres.

Her multidisciplinary experience highlights the value of connecting regulation with prevention, treatment, research, and accessible support services.
