SportPesa 2025: Transforming Lives, Sports, and Communities in Kenya and Tanzania

2025 has been a year of significant milestones and impactful achievements for SportPesa in East Africa. Across Kenya and Tanzania, the company strengthened its role not only as a supporter of sports but also as a catalyst for community development, talent growth, and life-changing opportunities for players and fans alike.

In Kenya, the launch of the SportPesa League marked a major step forward for the country’s top-tier football. The ten-year KSh 1.12 billion sponsorship, with 60% of funds allocated directly to clubs and player welfare initiatives, provided critical support to teams, enabling better training, improved operations, and enhanced opportunities for young talent. As Ronald Karauri, CEO of SportPesa, noted, “Football in Kenya will reclaim its lost glory. Over the years, we will steadily make great progress and strides.”

Beyond professional clubs, SportPesa’s Tujiamini Initiative continued to empower communities through youth programs, support for local projects, and recognition of community heroes. These efforts ensured that investment in football translated into tangible benefits for people across the country, nurturing the next generation of athletes while fostering community engagement.

In Tanzania, Young Africans SC (Yanga SC) achieved its fourth consecutive league title, demonstrating excellence both on and off the field. SportPesa renewed its three-year sponsorship of the club, valued at TZS 21.7 billion, extending support to men’s, women’s, and grassroots teams. Initiatives such as Game Changers provided over 500 young players with kits, training, and opportunities to participate in competitions such as the Shabiki Cup, ensuring that emerging talent receives the attention and resources required to succeed.

SportPesa’s commitment to sports extended beyond football. In Kenya, the National Rugby 7s Circuit provided clubs with structured competition and development opportunities, while the SportPesa Boxing Initiative revitalized competitive boxing, attracting talent from across East Africa and Europe. These programs demonstrate SportPesa’s dedication to supporting athletic development in multiple disciplines and promoting sporting excellence throughout the region.

The year also witnessed life-changing moments for SportPesa players. In Kenya, Bonnie Kamau became the nation’s largest Mega Jackpot winner, turning a KSh 99 stake into KSh 424 million. In Tanzania, players such as Manase Elias Ottaro and Fadhil Daniford Ndomba won substantial Midweek Jackpots, underscoring SportPesa’s role in creating meaningful opportunities for its customers.

SportPesa’s leadership in the industry was recognized through multiple awards, including Top Betting Brand in Kenya and Best Sports Betting Brand in Africa, reflecting its innovation, responsible gaming practices, and commitment to communities. The launch of Turbo League, a virtual football game developed with Kiron Interactive, introduced new ways for players to engage with the sport, enhancing the overall experience and demonstrating SportPesa’s continued focus on innovation.
